Disneynature “Earth” Movie Plants a Tree in Brazilian Rainforest for Each Ticket

I love trees. And thanks to Disney, at least 500,000 more trees are going to be planted, adding to the restoration of forests in our world.

Disneynature’s movie “Earth” opens tomorrow, April 22nd, and for every ticket sold for viewings between April 22-28, a tree will be planted in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest.

“With half a million new trees committed so far, Disneynature’s first film is already making an impact on the world—and ‘EARTH’ hasn’t even opened yet. We’re so pleased that moviegoers have embraced this film and our tree-planting initiative to this degree and we expect the numbers to keep climbing.” – Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group

According to Disney, their goal is to ensure that the trees are planted in areas that conservationists have identified as critical areas of biodiversity, and for the greatest long term benefit for the planet. The Atlantic Forest in Brazil is considered one of the most endangered rain forests in the world, with only 7% of the forest remaining intact.

500,000 advance tickets have been sold already, so that’s a cool half a million trees to be planted in the rain forest, with many more people expected to buy a ticket and view the film in the next week. The plantings will happen with every ticket, so there’s no need to send anything in or register your purchase. Just go watch the movie and Disney will take care of the rest.

I’m not usually a fan of Disney films (that topic is fodder for another blog post), but when the media giant is raising awareness of the environment, and planting trees in the rain forest if you go see it, then I have no problem getting behind the idea.

The movie “Earth” tells the story of three animal families and their journeys across our planet, narrated by James Earl Jones and directed by Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, the creative team behind the Emmy Award®-winning “Planet Earth.”
