Of course burger king is going to say global warming is "baloney" (which they spelled wrong.) They're a fast food restaurant that serves up gobs and gobs of meat; aka: the number one contributor to environmental pollution and excess greenhouse gases.

I do NOT support burger king, nor do I eat there, but I can understand why they would make up something that stupid.

Trent, very good reasoning, this Zakk guy really isn't giving off any bit of a good argument.

@WSD
Just because you think that "10,000-18,000" years was a long time ago doesn't mean it is or that we're just coming out of an ice age. The thing is, it's not that the world is heating up, that's normal for where we are at this time, but that it's heating up too fast due to extra greenhouse gasses. No, not the introduction of greenhouse gasses, but the piling on off them. If any of you dissenters would bother to look up the data anywhere that isn't completely biased (that also means nothing with Al Gore in it) then I think you'd find the truth of the matter. Or just keep denying, whichever.

To start off with, I'm not a fan of BK as I worked for them very briefly a few years ago and do not agree with the corner cutting in the fast food industry. There's plenty of it, but that's another story for another time. As far as the Global Warming issue goes, you'll find that it's nothing more than a politically motivated hoax. I've always thought it to be a hoax, but now I'm starting to believe it's a path towards some sort of global carbon tax. I complete agree with BK's stand on this issue, but don't think it's an issue a corporate food chain should be stating it's opinions on.

Scientifically speaking, our last ice age was approximately 10,000-18,000 years ago. To us, that's a hell of a long time ago. But when you're talking about the broad span of this planet's history, it really wasn't too long ago. Technically, as far as this planet's history is concerned, we're just coming out of an ice age. So of course our planet is just going to get warmer. I'm convinced that everything that happens on the higher level of government (I mean above whomever they put in the public eye such as presidents and congress) is, for lack of better words, a load a bull**** with agendas far more dangerous from issues which everyone absorbs from mass media

@ Trent,
you should be a politician because you are very good at intentionally misunderstanding what is being said and then refuting your interpretation. or it may be that i don't make my meaning clear enough. regardless i find it truly ironic that we mean the same thing in most cases but our attitudes and perspectives have got us debating. i'm actually a pretty green person. one tank of gas lasts three months in my vw fox which is only used for out of town trips. i bike or walk everywhere else. i greatly dislike the oil companies and propaganda published by them makes good fodder for the compost pile next to my vegetable garden.

@Zak,

but the climate did not change in the “past.

I am sorry but that is clearly wrong. The science of paleoclimatology has acquired a vast amount of empirical data to confirm past climate changes. Just how do you think glacial moraines appear in such places as New York and Scotland? Moraine Fairies?

there are no set of rules,...

Yes, their are it called physics and chemistry.

no baseline to shoot for, just what we’ve experienced thus far for us to go off of just what we’ve experienced thus far for us to go off of.

The above is a fallacy of thinking called the Argument from Ignorance. Even if it was true that we had no knowledge of the how and why of past climate changes ( An utterly untrue statement.) it would not not mean we knew nothing of how climate works.

and greenhouse gasses are not new.

Straw Man argument. No one is arguing that green house gases are new. What is being asserted is that humans have increased the level of green house gases to levels that have not been seen for over 800,000 years.

any thing else you would like to poke at so i can correct your misconceptions?

You have not corrected anything. You have simply reasserted your ideological convictions with out the aid of logic or facts. Please go read what the climate community is actually saying and not what some fossil fuel industry funded propaganda site says.

@ Trent,
you are right about there being a multitude of reasons. but the climate did not change in the "past". there are no set of rules, no baseline to shoot for, just what we've experienced thus far for us to go off of. climate is a fluid system with several variables and at present we appear to have simply accelerated the cycle. which i concede is a bad thing because evolution takes time hence slower is better. i just get upset when people would rather say "global warming! omg!" than actually learn about climate change and how to lessen their impact on the environment.

and greenhouse gasses are not new. they far pre-date the appearance of oxygen in the atmosphere. any thing else you would like to poke at so i can correct your misconceptions? anyone's welcome to. zharrysun@aol.com

The planet goes on but not necessarily with the humun race on board. We should worry. Government miss information to play down global warming is partly to blame. Good job the internet exists so people can be more informed.

@ Zack,

global warming is real, but its not a problem. the earth has had an average temperature almost 15 degrees farenheit warmer at one point in time since life showed up on earth.

You have just committed the genetic fallacy of reasoning. Just because climate has changed in the past from one reason, does not mean that it precludes changing for another cause.

i don’t want to sound like a jerk or a know-it-all but i really wish people would educate themselves a little before they freak out about things they don’t fully understand.

Irony
