100 Percent of Fish Tested, Contain Mercury – Big Coal to Blame

by Adam Shake · 3 comments

Spring break in Montana

A federal study released Wednesday, found mercury in every fish tested at nearly 300 streams across the country.

The study by the U.S. Geological Survey is the most comprehensive look to date at mercury in the nation’s streams.

From 1998 to 2005, scientists collected and tested more than a 1,000 fish from 291 streams nationwide. While all fish had traces of mercury contamination, an astounding 25% had levels exceeding what the EPA says is safe for people to eat.

The main source of mercury in fish? Emissions from coal-fired power plants.

This incredible amount of pollution within our environment, (which has made its way into our food supply) just goes to show that we must move away from our current Coal Age. We must continue moving toward a more sustainable future. We have no other choice.

Yeah, we eat fish in denial that mercury is in that fish, that it builds up in our bodies, just like in fish. It will take a long time to see the mercury disappear after the end of the cola age.

Lets talk about the new government mandated light bulbs containing mercury vapor. Seriously what genius came up with this one. If you think all the average joes using these bulbs will recycle them properly think again. Good grief
