Dirty little secret’s of an Environmentalist

O.k., you ready for this? On the way to the bank for lunch, after writing yesterdays post, I…. wait for it….. I wentintoMcDonaldsandhadaBigMac. God! I know! How could I!? Cows dieing from being fed corn! They have to eat 7 lbs of corn for every lb. of meat it produces! Antibiotics are shot into cows from they day they are born! And of course McDonald’s is a huge, evil clown faced organization who brands children through play-stations and birthday party’s and trash blowing down the street, using synthetic chemicals to add more fatty good taste to their burgers, allowing certain parts per million of cow shit in their meat, buying cattle by the thousands and making them stand in huge parking lot type things for weeks, jamming corn down their throats to get them fatter before slaughter….! It was that sweet siren smell of the sizzling meat death. It was the thought of the corn syrup laced ketchup squirting out the back of the bun as I took a bit and sliding down the back of my throat. The cold pickle slice against the roof of my mouth. It was the guilt. The guilt felt good. I was about to do something wrong. I was about to commit a sin. I stood, just outside the door, hesitating for a moment. I looked around and recognized no one I knew. I stepped in. The air-conditioning greeted me like a mother placing a cold cloth against my fevered forehead. I stepped into line and started to wonder about my decision. I shouldn’t do this. I should leave.

“May I help you?” she asked?

There was no smile on her face, and as I stepped to the counter I tried not to look at her as I mumbled, “I’ll have a big mac.”

After trying to sell me a “Meal”, I hurriedly took my glutton-burger to the farthest corner and sat facing the corner. I was hiding. I didn’t want anyone to see me. I stayed away from the windows. “You’re such a fake”, I thought. “I hope this makes you sick.” But damn if it didn’t taste good! It was just right. It tasted just like death should. It squirted in all the right places. It’s combination of hot meat and cold condiments raised goosebumps on my arms.

Back in my office, I felt like shit for the rest of the day.

Now I’m not saying I’m a vegetarian, I’m not. I like a good steak just as much as the next guy. But I prefer to buy my meat from a grocer or even better, a farmer. I try very hard to stay away from fast food places. Because they lie. They don’t serve food. They serve poison. Albeit delicious poison.

The fact that I was in the bathroom an hour after eating proves this point. Also, you don’t “Eat” fast food. You “consume” fast food. There is a sign right in the McDonald’s that I sat in that said “Patron’s have 20 minutes to consume their food.” That’s not a lie. That’s literally what it said. “Consume.” It should have said “Consumers have 20 minutes to consume their poison.”

So back to yesterday’s post. My dad always said “Don’t come to me with a problem unless you tried to think of a solution.” Something that I try to advocate with my employees. Problems without solutions turn into complaining. And I hate complaining.

Yesterday’s post was a rail against king corn and all the evils it does to the world. Everything from sick cows to fat kids to deforestation. What’s my solution? Don’t do like I did yesterday. Educate yourself. Don’t buy in to the Bio fuel hype unless they start using sawgrass or seaweed. Try to cut High Fructose Corn Syrup from as much of your diet as you can.

As one of my commentator’s stated, it just makes you want to move to the woods and live off the grid, but I guess what it comes down to is that you we all don’t have to be perfect. But we should all try to be better.
