Social Media + Copenhagen = Hopenhagen

by Derek Markham

Hopenhagen Social Media + Copenhagen = HopenhagenIn the lead-up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (COP15), a new site, Hopenhagen,  is creating a virtual community and becoming a voice for hope. Citizens around the globe can leave a short message of hope for world leaders, with the aim of raising awareness and “leading our leaders into making the right decisions.”

“On December 7, 2009, leaders from 192 countries will gather at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark to determine the fate of our planet. Let’s turn Copenhagen into Hopenhagen. Hopenhagen is a movement, a moment and a chance at a new beginning. The hope that we can create a global community that will lead our leaders into making the right decisions… Hopenhagen is change – and that change will be powered by all of us.”

Too often, the climate change issue is one of dread and doom, not hope and change. The message of Hopenhagen is “by solving our environmental crisis, we can solve our economic crisis at the same time.”

Please add your voice to the thousands who are leaving messages of hope for world leaders by visiting Hopenhagen today and helping to spread the word to your network. You can also follow the Twitter feed of the UN Climate Change 09 and retweet their messages to raise awareness.

Together we can make a difference.

Reminder: We’re raising money for environmental groups – one dollar at a time! Please chip in!
