You may be seeing new birds at your birdfeeder. The Audubon Society has identified bird species that are moving north due to Climate Change
But wait a minute. Isn’t an invasive species a “Species of plants or animals not native to a region that it has have been introduced to?”
Time will tell, whether or not these bird species will out compete native species for food and habitat.
In the meantime, if you see these birds in your yard, at your feeder or in the woods or lakeshore, you’ll know that things are changing, and not necessarily for the better.

Birds are not the only species that migrate because of Climate Change. While living in Colorado a while ago, people were starting to notice the trend of wild animals (bear, cougar…) coming out of the mountains and into the suburbs in the summer months.
The reason for this is that these animals rely on water sources fed by melting snow on top of places like Pikes Peak. As the snow pack disappears earlier each year due to warming, the animals are forced further and further into the cities in search for food and water. Before you know it, you’ve got a cougar drinking out of your back yard pool.
Climate Change is real. Global Warming is real. The latest global warming trend is being caused by us, and it has consequences.
Thanks for visiting Twilight Earth. Keep up the good fight, and Alter the Eco!

This is one aspect of global climate destabilization that lay people don’t ordinarily consider, along with the obvious climatic changes. Thanks for pinning these down.
Thanks for drawing attention to this issue. The inference that when native species extend or change their range due to human caused impacts, like global climate change, they might be considered invasive species is an interesting twist. I had not really considered that shift in terms of invasion ecology… I wonder what the cascading impacts two and three steps removed from the simple shift in range will be? Chaos.
