Obama Raises Fuel Efficiency and Reverses Bush’s Climate Change Policies

In a bold move that raises fuel efficiency standards for cars and grant states authority to set their own cafe standards for fuel efficiency, President Obama starts reversing former President George W. Bush’s climate change policies today.

An unnamed administration official said late last night that Obama would direct the E.P.A. to reconsider a request by California to impose its own strict limits on automobile carbon dioxide emissions.

California has been the leader in trying to impose it’s own fuel efficiency standards and their efforts have been blocked in the past by the Bush White House. California wants to reduce it’s auto emissions by 30 percent by 2016.

Obama promised on the campaign trail to take aggressive action to fight global warming and reduce emissions. Since his election, I have heard a lot of people both here in D.C. and the Midwest, share the attitude of “We’ll wait and see,” when it comes to President Obamas ability to meet expectations.

Well it’s been exactly one week since he was sworn in as our 44th President, and I already like what I’m seeing.
